The Last of LFW SS14

Tuesday, 24 September 2013

Hello lovelies!

Ok so I know that London Fashion Week is dead and gone and that everyone has jetted off to Paris to check out what chic creations France has to offer but London is still alive for me. Partly because I'm way behind on my reviews and partly because I never want it to end! But bare with me as I attempt to play catch up.

We're kicking it off with the wonderful Matthew Williamson who created this collection with his brand woman in mind. He said that he recognised that the Matthew Williamson woman was no longer a 20 something year old with no scruples  she had matured and grown up and was no living in the real life. That is why this season we were more sophisticated with day time wear, suits, and looks for appropriate for work. However with hand drawn or painted prints, florals and energetic patterns we still didn't lose the classic Williamson vibe.

The Temperley London collection this season was inspired by a holiday to Sicily and features classic south Italian shapes and rich, romantic colours.

Burberry Prorsum celebrated Nottingham lace with some gorgeous pastel and dreamy pencil skirts. Bailey really designed for the functional working women by creating wearable but still feminine and beautiful silhouettes that could be perfectly adapted into a Spring/Summer wardrobe. (If only we had the money!)

And of course the one collection I've been dying to see is Erdem however this year the classic very pretty and beautiful 'Erdem' aesthetic was missing. It was replaced by a distinctive tomboy-esque theme with hard edges and a clean slate approach. I still don't feel quite as in love with this collection as I usually would with only hints of femininity here and there but I do applaud Erdem from stray from the comfort zone and branching out.

Sorry for such a late post but I'm playing my 'settling into university' card and saying I'm just adjusting at the moment but I'll be back to normal soon enough!

Thanks for reading,
Ciara xx

Life Changes

Saturday, 24 August 2013

Hello lovelies!

Ok so it's quite a different post today as I thought I'd try out doing a little 'life update' post. As thousands upon thousands of Irish secondary students will know in June 2013 I sat the Irish Leaving Certificate, an exam that has the potential to map out the rest of your life for you. These exams area seriously stressful and can really take it out of the best of people. Fortunately I survived the ordeal and moved on with my summer filling it with travel and friends in a futile attempt to forget that in a few weeks time I would get my results....

Wednesday August 14th came around like a lightening bolt and all of a sudden I found myself driving up to my old school to collect my fate, wrapped up tight and served in a brown envelop with a side of anxiety.

In my opinion grades and results are not the most important things in the world and my approach to the Leaving Cert was very relaxed which is why I didn't think I was going to do well. However I was absolutely over the moon to receive 3 A1's, 3 A2's and a B1 in my exams. That amounts to 595 points out of a possible total of 625 so it was safe to say I was one happy girl.

Getting that amount of points meant that I was offered my first choice of university courses which was Business and French at Trinity College Dublin. I'm not entirely sure if I'll love my course but I'm so excited to get into the university student lifestyle. New friends, new classes, new experiences and tonnes of societies and clubs to get involved in. Yesterday I got my welcome email from Trinity and it got me all excited and ready to start choosing my extra course modules (law, political science or sociology? You tell me?). Freshers week starts September 16th!

On another note as you may have seen last year around this time of year my brother attended his debs which is like an american prom but slightly more formal in that the girls usually wear long flowing dresses and the guys buy corsages. Well, this year it's finally my turn to take a whack at the debs and on Tuesday September 3rd I'll be getting all dolled up to dance the night away with my friends. Here are a few hints as to what I'll be wearing but don't worry I'll be posting up a few photos of the day.

Only about 9 more days to go! My friends have put in so much work and I know it'll be worth it.

Right so if you've lasted this long I'd like to first of all congratulate you for getting through all that and also I'd like to reassure you that I'll be back to the usual posts ASAP. Look out for a university haul coming soon.

London Adventures Part 4! City Fun and Kensington Palace

Monday, 12 August 2013

Hello lovelies!

I think it's time for another 'London Adventure' post don't you?

This post brings us to our last day in central London and a tour around the wonderful Kensington Palace. Now after a few long days in London Niamh and I were running out of touristy things to do but one thing on our to-do list was certainly a visit to the M&M World Store to stock up on chocolaty goodness.

Yes, it is a wall of M&M flags.

I got a bit carried away at the wall of multi-coloured little beads of choco goodness.

The next item to tick off on our list was a visit to Soho Square which was bustling with lunch time snackers taking up every inch of grass and bench available desperately trying to soak up some glorious sunshine.

A very competitive ping pong game.

The next day we ventured into Kensington Gardens to pay a visit to the building where Queen Victoria grew up.

Inside we got to have a poke around the nursery, dining halls and many rooms full of old timey furniture, I even got to hang out with Kate and Will ;)

But the best thing about the palace was the exhibition on the fashion of the royals, primarily Princess Diana, Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Margaret. All I have to say is I wouldn't mind being a royal, Dior and handmade couture makes me one happy girl!

And of course I was most excited by Princess Diana's closet which was all glamour and sequined beauty.

And that about sums up my adventures in London. My next post will be about the few days I spent at my aunt's lake house chilling out, swimming in lakes and kayaking. I had the most amazing time in London and would recommend it to anyone who loves holidays that are jam packed with fun and laughter.

On another note as I am writing this now it is just 2 mere days until I receive my Leaving Cert results which are given out on Wednesday the 14th and I'm not going to lie I'm a just a tad bit nervous! What I get in these exams will determine what college I go to and basically how my life will pan out for the next year, so fingers crossed I'll do well enough to be one happy lass on Wednesday!
